Here is your practical guide to what is happening around Hamilton, with direct organiser links, an updated weather outlook and the road closures worth knowing before you leave home.

🎶 Homegrown is returning to Hamilton

Jim Beam Homegrown returns to Claudelands Oval on Saturday 3 April 2027. The first lineup includes Fat Freddy’s Drop, Sir Dave Dobbyn, Shapeshifter, Gin Wigmore and more. The organiser describes 2027 as the festival’s 20th year, following a Hamilton event that attracted around 25,000 people in 2026.

🚧 Roads to know about

Forest Lake Road is one-way between Holden Avenue and Ridout Street until 5 November, with full overnight closures on 14 and 15 October from 7pm to 6am.

Carlyle Avenue is closed between Crosby Road and Sutcliffe Place until 19 October. Pembroke Street has overnight closures between Selwyn Street and Ohaupo Road until 18 October, from 6pm to 6am.

Anglesea Street also has nightly closures between Mill Street and London Street until 3 November. Allow extra time for Claudelands and stadium trips, and check Council’s current roadwork list.

🗓 Labour Weekend is nearly here

Labour Day is Monday 26 October. For many Monday-to-Friday workers, that creates a three-day weekend from Saturday 24 to Monday 26 October.

If your employer approves annual leave for Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 October, four leave days could create nine consecutive days away from work, from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November. This depends on your usual working days and approved leave.

Check the official public holiday dates.
