Your Labour Weekend edition

Kia ora Hamilton 👋

Who else is ready for a long weekend? Labour Weekend is here, the evenings are getting longer and there are plenty of reasons to get out around our city.

This week brings Latin American music and dance at Hamilton Gardens, a retro dancefloor at Claudelands, vintage treasures, local theatre and some easy family outings. The new Medieval Garden is another reason to revisit the Gardens.

Some mornings still need a jacket, but Friday’s early outlook reaches 23°C. Whether your plans involve a road trip, a picnic or sleeping in on Monday, here is your Hamilton week.

♻️ Labour Day: your bins stay on schedule

Labour Day is Monday 26 October. Hamilton City Council confirmed on 19 October that rubbish and recycling collections will run on their normal days. Put your bins out as usual by 7am.

Facilities open on Monday:
Habitat for Humanity Reuse Store, Lincoln Street: 9am to 4pm.
Lincoln Street Resource Recovery Centre: 9am to 4pm.
Hamilton Organic Centre: 8am to 5pm.

Check individual business hours before heading out; some cafés and restaurants may apply a public-holiday surcharge.

If your employer approves annual leave from 27 to 30 October, four days of leave can give you nine consecutive days away, from 24 October to 1 November.
